Field Recording: Winter Rain

Early morning recordings of winter rain hitting different surfaces: metal fire escape, wooden deck, canvas awning. Layered with granular synthesis to extend the textures.
Processing chain: Sound Devices MixPre → Granular synthesis in Max/MSP → Reverb (valhalla supermassive) → Subtle tape saturation

Study: Harmonic Clouds

Working with overlapping sine tones and randomized frequency modulation. Creating slowly evolving harmonic fields inspired by winter light and long shadows.
Built a custom Max patch for frequency modulation with random walk through a predetermined scale. Adding subtle movement with LFOs controlling amplitude and filter cutoff.

Process: Space and Time

Exploring the relationship between physical space and sonic decay. How does the memory of a sound relate to the space it inhabited? Working with very long reverb tails and subtle modulation.
Found an interesting technique: recording the natural reverb of a space, then using that as an impulse response in a convolution reverb. Creates a ghostly, hybrid space.
